Summary
Nine years is a long time in gaming terms, and the big question today is: Has No Man’s Sky changed in that time?
No Man’s Sky, a massive open-world exploration and survival game, in which you can travel to endless different planets, every one of them has its very own Atmosphere, conditions and obstacles, in search for the centre of the universe. From giant noxious, Gaseous planets, to hazardous swamp environments, every planet and every settlement provides several truly unique experiences.
When it first launched, Hello Games had made a lot of promises about what No Man’s Sky could be. Unfortunately, they could not live up to the ideal that they wanted. There were several issues with Multiplayer capability. A lot of the activities and encounters were plain, repetitive and boring. Ultimately the game did not do great. Receiving a low 6/10 from IGN, No Man’s Sky was quickly forgotten about.

In 2018, Hello Games decided that they were not done with this game yet, and that they would live up to the promises that they had made. That same year, they had launched onto Xbox and PC, and added a new update, making the more repetitive nature of the game a bit more exciting.

Since then, we are now at the 21st expansion of this game, and it is a completely different game than it was back then. The latest expansions include many new features that make the game virtually brand new.
It is speculated that to see and do everything in No Man’s Sky, it would take the average player 8million years, playing the game every single day for 24 hours straight.
In 2025, this is one of the most highly regarded exploration and survival games, bringing back players, both day-1’s and new players.
Player Base
According to ActivePlayer.io, the game’s current daily player base is in the 200,000’s. From professional base builders to vicious space pirate lords, you can find players of every sort and nature in this huge game. Be wary when making friends, and trade contacts, as they can start a mutiny in transport, or sabotage your equipment, leaving you stranded in space.

One user took images from the game on Launch day, and then the same image nine years later, and the result is staggering. This Youtube video will provide a visual demonstration.
To say the least, this game is worth exploring through. With the new Multiplayer features, you and your friends can explore the unknown corners of the galaxy together. Taking on Space Pirates. Dealing in trade. Working for the space government. Dealing with pesky smugglers, or criminals. The world is literally at your fingertips.
