Dundee Esports arena

Dundee Esports arena, is it happening?

The Dundee Esports arena was originally thought about in early 2019 with the goal oh having it built and set up by 2022 but then later I 2020 they realised it would not be done until 2024 but as we now realised (in 2025) that was not going to happen as there has been set backs with the general design of the building and funding however the now state that the building will start in 2025 and will be finished by 2026 or 2027 but who knows what will happen.

Funding and what they’ll do

When the idea for the arena was originally put in the budget for the building was around £40-£60 million but this was later increased to £100 million due to the project being bigger than anticipated, that with adding all the high spec high tech equipment that will be used, there is also a lot of money going into the digital side of the design.

This video shows gameplay that would hopefully be in the arena when it is built.

Setbacks for the Dundee Esports arena

The original plan for the Esports arena was for it to be made in 2022 but the funding was cut by a large margin and made the expected time go to 2024 but by then the budget had increased again then making it slightly easier for the production team to get on with the work but then they encountered another issue where they had to size back due to unknown reasons, I find that not giving a reason is extremely unprofessional and gives the impression of lack of expertise and knowledge.

To come for Dundee Esports arena

Now it is unsure what the real time for the arena to be finished but what I think will be done once it is eventually built is instead of just hosting competitions, it could welcome people for workshops, local tournaments, concerts, and community events. The space could be flexible, so it can change depending on what’s happening that day. Big screens, good sound, and interactive technology could make it an exciting experience for everyone who visits.

It could also be a place where people learn and grow. Areas for practice, mentoring, and creative projects would give local players and creators a chance to improve their skills. Schools, colleges, and local groups could use the arena to explore careers in gaming, design, and digital media. A small studio for streaming and recording could also show Dundee talent to a wider audience.

Beyond gaming, the arena could help the local economy by bringing visitors, supporting shops nearby, and hosting cultural events. By being welcoming and accessible to all, it could become a lively, creative hub that truly reflects Dundee’s spirit.
